1.0 Knitting - The Very Beginning

This is not just any beginner knit class! Small classes, personal attention and creative teachers who believe in your success - you get all of this and more in our Knit Now classes. In this two-part class, you'll learn more than just the basics to get you on your way! Skills learned include:

• Cast on & Bind off
• Knit & Purl stitches
• Increasing & Decreasing

You'll choose between a cool and simple hat or an easy scarf for your first project! By the time class has ended you'll be armed and ready to knit just about anything you can think of.

2.0 Knitting - Getting Past Scarves & Taking Control of Your Knitting

Feeling like a beginner even though you can knit and purl? Wish you could make something that IS NOT a scarf? This is the class for you.
Skills learned include:

• What & Why a Gauge Swatch
• Stitch Patterns
• Various Increases and Decreases
• Seaming and Seamless Knitting in the Round
• Cables
• Pattern Reading

We'll work on a pair of fingerless gloves that will combine all of these skills.

Build Your Own Dress Form; Understanding Yarns; Knitting to Your Personal Style

PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE OF DATE FROM 10/25 TO NOVEMBER 8.

Materials required: Several rolls of duct tape, newspaper or plastic shopping bags for stuffing. Knitting notions including needles of various sizes for swatching.

This workshop is for any knitter who wants to keep it simple and make garments that they love and that FIT! Join knitwear designer Lisa Limber who knows a thing or two about making wearable garments to live in for this day-long workshop suitable for every knitter.

In the morning session, we'll partner up with another student to each craft a personal dress form using duct tape and stuffing.

Please wear or bring to class a T-shirt that fits you closely and that can be cut up.

In the afternoon session, we'll chat about what makes a design work better for some than others, what design features we enjoy in our own clothes, our favorite things to knit & what we should be knitting for ourselves.

We'll cover:
• Swatching
• Numbers crunching
• Sketching & Designing
• Play with yarn textures, drape and colors
• Learn from one another about what we like to knit and what looks good

Think of it as your own personal Project Runway!

A $35 kit is available for a stand and base for your dress form. If you'd like to order the kit and/or lunch ($10), please make a note of it in the comments field of your order page. We'll add these items to your class fees when we charge your credit card if you order them.

Fixing Mistakes/Errors in Knitting

Learn to recognize and solve errors in your knitting. You'll feel very confident in your knitting abilities when you can continue on despite the occasional error!

What we'll learn:
• Managing dropped stitches
• Fixing the unintentional extra stitch
• Finding a lost stitch
• Examining twisted stitches
• Learning to read your stitches

Homework: Knit two 6-inch square swatches -- 1 stockinette and 1 garter, but don't bind them off.

Christmas Tree Ornaments to Knit

Knit up some simply beautiful ornaments. Perfect for your holiday or as very quick gifts. A great project for knitters with little experience or a whole lot! Try beaded ornaments or use a sparkly yarn. We’ll supply the clear glass ornaments. Please note the date has changed!

Easy Stash Buster Designer Throw

This is one fun throw to make! I'm using amazing yarns from my stash -- yarns that I love but have been waiting for that elusive, perfect project. And together they look like a throw for which I would pay many hundreds of dollars.

If you'd like to make excellent use of your stash -- from full skeins to bits and pieces, this is the best project I know.

Stephanie will teach you the fun and easy technique known as Tunisian crochet. Absolutely zero crochet experience is needed to master this simple technique, for it's really not much like crochet (or knitting) at all. You'll find you intuitively know what to do, once I show you the basics.

The Tunisian extended style of hooks are custom made for this class by Jenkins Woodworking. Your class fee includes your handmade maple wood hook, size S (19mm) and the Stitch Diva pattern, "Stash Buster Blanket."

Hooks will be ordered to be crafted once you sign up for class with payment. Then we will talk together to set up the class dates. A group date will be set, but if you are unable to make the group class, Stephanie will work with you separately at your convenience.
