Our Passport to Unwind indie dyer series was so much fun and so popular, we’ve decided to launch a new club. We are excited to invite you to Unwind’s Road Trip USA, a series of exclusive, in-store events featuring the most coveted, most elusive yarns available today.
Stephanie and her Unwind team of yarn collectors have scoured the Unites States of independent yarn dyers to present you what we consider to be some of the most gorgeous, plush, luxurious, saturated skeins that will thrill, inspire and enchant you. We’ll travel to all corners of this great country, without leaving Unwind, to bring you yarns from dyers in the Northwest, South, New England and our nation’s capitol.
This carefully curated selection of artisan, hand-dyed yarns are not to be found at any other yarn shop in the area. Some aren’t found anywhere in any yarn shops anywhere. You do not have to travel cross country, attend crowded consumer shows or find yourself at your computer, fighting with others in varied time zones in hopes of winning one coveted skein. No need to suffer the uncertainty of trying to choose colors from a computer screen.
This is an experience you do not want to miss. This is your all-access backstage pass — it’s Road Trip USA. Your $50 Trip-Tik entitles you to:
- Four exclusive events, featuring yarns that are not available in local shops; in some cases not available in any brick and mortar shop – only 50 Trip-Tiks will be available

- A limited number of personal shopper appointments will also be set aside for each event. If you cannot attend a particular event, Trip-Tik holders may sign up for an appointment (as available) for a chance to selet your skeins.
- There will be 7-8 yarns available over the four events (1 – 3 types per dyer). Base yarns will not be repeated. Weights from lace through Worsted will be featured to supply you the best yarns for any type of project. All sales final.
- Seasonally friendly yarns will be featured — from tencel and bamboo to stainless steel, alpaca and good old merino
- Project ideas, knitted samples and patterns will be available.
- Special treats and drawings at each event.
- There may be an opportunity to make special orders from these dyers in addition to purchase at events. Restrictions apply.
- Only Trip-Tik holders will be admitted to each event.

Knitplay is Unwind’s newest course under the Knitting University umbrella. It’s a graduate program for knitters where techniques are practiced in more depth than the original Knitting University course.
In our ten sessions we will:
- Play with choosing yarns & Considering the fabrics they create
- Building a color palette
- Crochet for knitters
- Pattern making
- Playing with pattern stitches
- Hems & selvedges & buttonholes
- Finishing & blocking
Each three hour session will begin with 90 minutes devoted to open knitting with project help. Stephanie Steinhaus’ expert instruction will combine with advice and feedback from your fellow knitters. The second 90 minutes of each session will be spent with interactive exercises exploring the techniques above.
Knitplay will provide a casual, thoughtful, fun environment for playing with yarn, building confidence and being a happy knitter!
