Debbie Abrahams is returning to the US for a teaching tour, and Unwind is her only Southern California stop!

An amazingly patient and giving teacher, her classes sold-out during her last Unwind visit. It’s been a two-year wait, but Debbie is coming back to SoCal just for Unwind! Treat yourself to a workshop with Debbie, and find a new love of knitting.

All of Debbie’s workshops are suitable for knitters who can knit and purl and follow a basic knitting pattern.

ABOUT DEBBIE ABRAHAMS
Debbie studied Knitwear Design at Nottingham Trent University in England for four years & graduated with a BA (Hons) Degree in Knitwear Design in 1993.

She then worked as a Design Consultant for Rowan Yarns and Jaeger Handknits for over ten years. She now spends her time teaching the craft that she loves, writing books and designing collections for her website and Rowan.

She is best known for her hand knit accessories, which combine her passion for color with beads and embellishments resulting in designs that have sold to knitters worldwide.

She has five books published: 100 Afghan Squares To Knit, 25 Cushions To Knit, 100 More Afghan Squares To Knit, and new this year, Design Your Own Knits and 25 Beaded Knits.

Tackling Intarsia

Thursday, Sept. 18, 6:00 - 9:00 p.m.

Learn how to knit with several different colors at a time using the Intarsia technique. Each participant will knit up a small color swatch from a given pattern and will be shown how to read from a chart, how to knit intarsia using yarn bobbins and how to avoid nasty gaps and holes between color changes.

Materials to bring with you: US 5 (3.75mm) knitting needles, a selection of double-knitting weight yarns in various colors, yarn bobbins (for winding small amounts of yarn onto), scissors and a hi-lighter pen.
Fee: $75

A Professional Finish

Friday, Sept. 19 – 6:00–9:00 p.m.

This workshop will give you the chance to learn how to professionally knit and finish your garments. Each participant will be asked to knit up a stockinette stitch square using double-knitting weight yarn before the day of the workshop. Then during the workshop the following techniques will be discussed and practiced: how to achieve correct gauge, sewing up using Mattress stitch, picking up stitches, joining shoulders using short-row shaping and a neat buttonhole.

Materials to bring with you: knitting needles: US 3, 6 and 7 (3.25mm, 4.00mm and 4.50mm), a sewing-up needle and scissors.

25 Beaded Knits

Saturday, Sept 20 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
(Includes 1 hour lunch break)

Learn how to knit with beads in a fun workshop that focuses on Debbie’s latest book. Each participant will work from a small purse kit and practice the technique of knitting with beads using the slip-stitch method. A beaded cast-on, a beaded loop and multi-colored beaded patterns will all be included in this exclusive project that has been designed especially for this workshop. Kits will be provided by Debbie and will include Rowan yarns (Glace Cotton) and beads.

Materials to bring with you: US 2-3 and 2 (3.00mm and 2.75mm) knitting needles, a fine sewing needle, sewing cotton and scissors.
